Undermanning Crypts

In my local group of friends, there're a few who play WoW, but there're only four of us on Cenarion Circle. So, even when we can all get together, doing instances can be tricky. but we don't let that stop us.
I'd had a quest for Auchenai Crypts for some time. It's not the high end instance of Terokkar Forest, with mobs around 66-67, so I thought we might be able to manage it, with a raid-geared 70 holy paladin, a 68 protection warrior, and a 68 hunter. And we did okay at first, until the tank got possessed. That did not go well.
Fortunately, our fourth showed up, a 65 hunter, and the added dps meant we could usually drop the possessor before he got the tank (although we still wiped a couple of times). But, with a little work, we made it to the first boss.
Luckily, I had extensive knowledge of this one, thanks to the time I helped Lucifervon on his Heroic run (which is to say, I got more out of it than just a repair bill ). We managed to avoid almost all the pulses, and I cleared the bleeds when they got problematic (taking care to warn the tank beforehand that I'd hit her with blessing of protection - tanks don't see that one much, so tend to panic when they get hit by it ).
Clearing to the next boss went pretty well. The skeleton mobs were fun, with me getting to AoE tank them and heal (go plate healing gear and concentration aura!). And then the second boss, whom none of us was familiar with (although I did take the opportunity to read up on him).
Our first attempt did not go well. Having 50% hunters meant I tended to get frost trapped by the shadows (and stunned by my own shadow), and with no one who could either free me or off heal, it made things rough on the tank. However, on our second try, we picked up and downed the shadows much faster, so that didn't happen too much. When the Avatar spawned, one of the hunters tried kiting it, and did keep it busy for a while, but she needs more practice kiting, and the lower dps meant the shadows didn't go down very fast (I had four on me by the end).
But, we didn't just wipe, we mutualled! So, what with completing the quest and getting the loot (such as it was - Ironstaff of Regeneration ), that counts as a win in my books. And it was a challenging run, as that's not one of the easier instances to underman, as we found out. |
