Maybe I just wasn't daring enough with Tiffara to try this sort of thing, but I've been greatly enjoying Jarand's ability to take down level+5 or level+6 opponents.
Once Jarand hit level 48, he'd been having to hunt around for quests a bit more than previously. Perhaps it was just a bad level for that sort of thing, but soloable quests were becoming hard to come by. Zones in his upper range would generally have one or two red quests (despite easier quests showing up once he got to 50 - that's an odd way of handling quests). He finally managed to get to 50 by clearing the Blasted Land starter quests (also nice for the leather) and a few others.
Still, most quests in Un'Goro were red, as were Western Plaguelands. The ones that weren't red were easy enough to complete, so it became time to look seriously at red quests. Some weren't too bad - stealth lets you bypass some obstacles, for example. But some had unavoidable fights. His first try was Lar'korwi (level 56). Since Lar'korwi is summoned, there's time to stealth after leaving the bait, so Jarand got the drop on him. After that, it took one or two cycles of healing himself, but he managed to take Lar'korwi down (he never tried hibernation, given it's low chance of success).
Inspired by his ability to handle Lar'korwi, when he later ran across a Ghost of the Past (level 55) helping out Pamela Redpath, he decided to stay and fight. Their frost shocks were kinda rough, and their being undead limited his combat options a bit, but he managed to finish them off. |
